Overview of the Updated Head Start Prog Perf Standards

Significant updates to the Head Start Program Performance Standards have been passed. Wipfli has been on your team for each update and change. Join this webinar to discuss future planning, timelines, and what you can do now to meet the new expectations. These updates focus on three key areas: compensation, mental health services, and meeting the evolving needs of communities. Though not all the proposed changes were implemented, enough of the changes were adopted to make an impact. Some areas we will discuss include: Head Start programs must pay staff competitive wages that is at least sufficient to meet basic cost of living in the local area Smaller agency exemptions Improving staff benefits – health, student loans, childcare, etc. Improving staff wellness - regular breaks, positive management style, clarifications of program-wide wellness supports, etc. Establishing a maximum caseload Effective, accessible forms of communications in all interactions with families Streamline enrollment processes to minimize burden on families Clarification of significant safety incidents Streamline the process and frequency of the community assessment Revise definition of income and allow programs to adjust a family’s gross income to account for excessive housing costs Clarification of ratios
